A base model Raptor or
A well equipp ed diesel overland grand cherokee with adventure package or
A base model GX or
... A Wrangler trim called “moab edition” that is the least moab of all W ranglers (a Sahara model with MT’s and a matching hardtop)
Who are you fooling Jeep?! oh right, everyone.
I mean I know options add up but how did Jeep convince people that if they wanted a roof that matched the rest of the car they should cough up an extras $ 2100? Well done FCA, you’ve created the Porsche brand for off road types. Now if you’ll excuse me I have to spec the color for my leather lined monogrammed vent surrounds.

I just can’t. Even. 50 grand. Wow. Such money. Great depreciation. Much payments.

You can also get a few different Land Rovers like the Velar & Discovery. A t least you wont have to deal with everyone asking “You paid how much!?”

Yes, I’ll take a Raptor. I would take the Lexus if it hadn’t been hit with an ugly stick. From some angles, it isn’t bad, but from head on it’s hideous.

And you’ll have to order the Raptor because this is the cheapest new Raptor on Autotrader in the country

For an adventure/overland vehicle? Raptor all day.

I suspect the “special” edition wranglers will be much the same story.

I’ll take one nicely optioned Jeep please.

Hold up...the real off- roader Rubicon edition is less than the Moab poser edition?

That’s also straight out of Porsche’s book, removing bits from the car and leave them on the shelf at the factory. Even the door handles are bits of rag.

A month or so ago, my wife was hinting that I should get a Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I told her how much they were. If I were to get a Wrangler, it’d be a two door. If I was going to spend near that on a new vehicle, I’d probably get a TRD Pro 4Runner.

F250 probably

Oh yea, the MOAB seems like a Sahara with rubicon looking bits added.
The one I optioned is: tan leather inside/ tan top outside / winter group / wheels / steel bumpers / LED lights.

That’s got to be like $600-$700/mo!.... Okay let me get a calculator... It’s actually $900/mo to finance $50k at 3% for 60 months, or $762 at 72 months.
This reminds me why I set a $20k budget limit for my last car and will continue to probably stay fairly close to that, but not before I enjoy several years of being car payment free.

So out of all these is the Cherokee kind of a neat deal in this price bracket ? From the standpoint of overlanding, you get a larger cabin and decent range out of a diesel engine.

Speaking of GXs, there’s a local ‘05 I’m tempted to look at only because it is a non-Nav model. Meaning can actually get away from that horrid infotainment/climate system and put in a new double DIN unit.
Has 190k miles on it though and is at a dealership so no clue how much background comes with the vehicle. I’ve seen many GXs with well over 200k miles - any concerns you’d have on one of these?
The price is just so tempting for what it is, obviously affected by the age and mileage...but as long as it’ll keep running forever who cares?

$53k will get you a very nice pickup.
Or a Golf R and one of those Mahindra Jeep-ish thingies.

For that money, you could also buy this house in Detroit:

yup, you get quadra-drive II which is pretty legit.

05 had some issues with a secondary air injection pump (you can bypass it so long as you aren’t in california) and throttle body signal issues (rare) but so long as its been up to date on its maintenance its probably fine. the A750f transmission and 2uz-fe are otherwise bulletproof.

Thank you sir. We’ll see what happens. Going through a “selling my E30, what do I replace it with?? ” crisis of sorts. One day I’m looking at E46 M3s, the next I’m looking at Lexus SUVs.

Yes the Wrangler can get awfully expensive. I figure FCA sees how much people spend I’m the aftermarket so might as well offer any and all options. If you do a Sahara with automatic transmission, full-time 4wd, rear LSD, and power top (basically a panoramic cloth sunroof) and no other options it’s already at $47k sticker.

I know the ability to remove the roof is a feature worth the price of admission for many , but charging 2100 so you can HAVE a roof that matches the body seems crazy to me.

If we’re buying new, m ake mine an M2 Competition.

Raptors are all $10-15k over MSRP in California.

Have you ever shopped for a used 4x4? They depreciate like beachfront property.

Ah nice! Maybe worth looking into once they depreciate to around $20k, haha.

Good point. No, I have not.
Bejeesus new SUV’s are pricey.

Or a Kia Stinge r GT2 at full MSRP... it’s 52k.
The extra 1000 dollars is just to buy fake facebook profiles to blackmail the Anti-stinger trolls.
